In 1787 This Elaborate Design Was Simplified. The Resemblance Of The New, Simpler Shield To The Old Style Long-Handled Spades Earned The Coin Its Famous Nickname – ‘Spade Guinea’! It Would Be The Final Guinea Minted For General Circulation, Before The Introduction Of The Modern Sovereign.
